PKP supports and maintains our forums as a resource for our user community to learn more about the software, to seek advice from other users of the software, and to provide suggestions on improvements to PKP’s software and services. PKP staff are active participants on the forum and will often participate in many of the exchanges, but we also encourage all members of the PKP community to participate actively and share their knowledge.
Use of our forums constitutes acceptance and agreement to our Code of Conduct (CoC). If you violate the Code of Conduct, PKP staff are the final arbitrators on enforcing the CoC guidelines and reserves the right to terminate all accounts belonging to you without prior notice. We prefer to advise users of inappropriate behavior, however, flagrant and repeated violations of our CoC will result in an immediate ban. Our failure to enforce this policy, for whatever reason, shall not be construed as a waiver of our right to do so at any time.
This Code of Conduct is intended to provide a basic understanding of what’s permissible and not permissible in our forums. The following are guidelines for the establishment and enforcement of our CoC:
- Ensure a positive, respectful atmosphere for our members
- Ensure the privacy of our members
- Encourage responsible use of our forums and discourage activities which disrupt our community
Violations of the Code of Conduct
This section of our Code of Conduct is not designed to cover every possible violation. We reserve the right to take action on our forums, including providing a warning, deleting posts, banning an account, etc, if your conduct is determined by PKP to be counterproductive to the Code of Conduct’s guidelines.
Usernames must not violate this Code of Conduct. We reserve the right to delete accounts whose associated usernames are in violation of this Code of Conduct, or are otherwise deemed inappropriate and/or potentially offensive.
Forgery or impersonation
Attempting to impersonate any person, including staff, is prohibited.
You may not bait/troll forum members. Baiting/trolling is defined as posting with the intent to provoke anger, incendiary posts, and behavior that results in other users violating the CoC.
You may not bait, insult, flame, or otherwise abuse a PKP staff member. PKP staff have to follow the same rules, and if you have a problem with a certain staff member, please contact us.
Ad Hominem comments/personal attacks towards anyone, including PKP staff, a forum member, or a visitor who is likely to view it on the forums, is subject to the message being deleted and action taken against the user, up to and including banning.
You may not use terms referring to ethnic/national origin, ideological/religious beliefs, gender, or sexual preference in a demeaning context.
Use of any terms in an offensive context against a person, race, culture, group or organization, as determined by our moderators, is in violation of this rule.
Sexually Offensive Materials
You may not post or link to pornography or sexually offensive materials.
Spamming is prohibited on our forums. Spam includes, but is not limited to, the following:
- Excessive off-topic threads
- Messages without content, with nonsensical content, or with links to unrelated content
- Blatant advertising
- Flooding the forum with repetitive messages
- Post-Count farming
- Inciting forum wars
- Fraudulent activity
Advertisements are not appropriate on the forums. This includes, but is not limited to, announcements of products, services, and free trials by those who stand to gain from such announcements. However, a simple statement that offers a way to follow-up for more information on a service or product is tolerated if it accompanies a substantive message discussing a subject appropriate to the list.
Announcements of conferences, workshops, new publications, and position openings appropriate to the topic of the forums are allowed.
If a large percentage of your posts include a mention of your product or website, you’re probably here for the wrong reasons and your posts will be removed.
You may not use our forums for illegal purposes, in support of illegal activities, or encourage activities that would constitute a criminal offense under Canadian law.
You may not post any form of personal information of a user unless the user has first permitted it by express consent. Examples of real life information include name, address, IP addresses, and phone numbers.
Moderation & Bans
You may not publicly complain about or demand a reason for banning, the deletion of a message, or the deletion/closure of a thread. Any discussion about warnings, bans, or post deletion, should be done over private email between the person concerned and the moderators. PKP staff are the final arbitrators on enforcing the CoC guidelines and reserve the right to terminate all accounts belonging to you without prior notice.
You may not post in a manner that is harmful to PKP. For example, “PKP sucks. Go here instead!” If you do, the post will be deleted and you will be banned.
You may not register multiple accounts with intent to violate any part of this CoC.
