Citation style plugin Vancouver style issue

Describe the issue or problem
We use the Citation Style Language Plugin. When choosing the Vancouver format for showing the citation, this format is set up to show an editor as shown in the screenshot below:

We have two issues with this:

  1. There is no name of the editor - we do not know where the name of the editor is expected to be in the system. We have added a user with the role “Series Editor” for this series, but the name of this editor does not appear in the citation. So there appears to be some kind of bug.
  2. We have some people involved in the process of publishing our publications, but who are not the true editor of the series. That could be a person who is responsible of uploading a finished file for this series and publishing it. To be able to handle the submissions in the system, this user is added to the series as “Series Editor”, but they should not appear in the citation, because someone else was the actual editor of the series. So could there be some way of deciding for each publication if the series editor user should appear in the citation.

Steps I took leading up to the issue

  1. Go to ‘installed plugins’ and activate the plugin ‘Citation Style Language’
  2. Create a series and add a user as series editor for this series.
  3. Publish a monograph in the series and go to the landing page.
  4. Go to “How to cite” on the right side of the landing page and choose “Vancouver” in the ‘More Citation Formats’ drop down-menu.
  5. See how it says (, editor. [NAME OF THE SERIES]) as a part of the citation.

Hi @alexandraFO,

For your first issue, in the plugin settings under Settings > Website > Plugins > Citation Style Language (click the arrow), there is an option to set roles, but it only includes the Volume editor role and not the series editor. This could definitely be improved and I will file an issue for us to look at this.

For your second issue, I’m not sure that there’s a good way for us to implement that when users are given roles that they don’t actually have - if possible, it may be better to create a custom role for these users in your press.

Thank you for looking into changing the role settings.

I will look into if we can just make a custom role for the series editors who are not true series editors, as you suggested.
