Availability of (or equivalents to) specific plugins in OJS 3.5

Not a traditional support question but not sure how else to tag it.

I’m preparing to upgrade a slew of OJS instances to 3.5 and I have some outstanding questions about specific plugins. I have a short list of plugins that ran in our 3.3 and 3.4 journals, that don’t appear to be available in 3.5, and that I could not otherwise account for. Details about the source of the list included below.

For each plugin, I’d appreciate PKP’s help to either:

  • confirm that these plugins not required in 3.5 (eg, their functionalities are handled differently), or
  • understand what (if any) functionality is lost with the plugin not being available in 3.5.

Here are the plugins I’d like to know about:

  • acronPlugin
  • usagestatsplugin
  • usageStatsReportPlugin
  • ViewReportPlugin
  • SwordImportExportPlugin
  • swordplugin

The original list of plugins was much longer but these are the only ones I can’t figure out. I’m pretty sure they’re PKP plugins, which is why I’m asking here (I’m dealing with 3rd party plugins separately).

A note about the source of the list: I asked my IT support to provide me with a list of all the journals running across our instances of 3.3 and 3.4. There were 112 plugins in the list, which included 3rd party and legacy plugins and custom plugins. I compared them against the list of plugins available in Website Settings > Plugins (both the installed plugins and the gallery), as well as the OJS/OMP/OPS 3.5.0 Plugin Compatibility list and the PKP Plugins List. These are the only plugins I couldn’t account for, or had deemed unnecessary based on available information.

The first four plugins appear in all instances of our journals; the two Sword plugins only appear in about 2/3 of our journals each.

Software versions: OJS 3.3.0-22, 3.4.0-10, 3.5.0-4

Hi @tmrozewski,

Thanks for your post and outlining your methodology for pinpointing plugins - I think that’s something users will find helpful when upgrading.

For acronPlugin - it’s possible that might be superseded by this: https://docs.pkp.sfu.ca/dev/release-notebooks/en/3.5-release-notebook#improvement-of-job-runner-configuration

I think that usagestagsplugin, usageStatsReportPlugin, and ViewReportPlugin will likely have been superseded by the statistics functionality improved in both 3.4 and 3.5. A lot of them went away in 3.4 with the focus on built-in Statistics capabilities. For swordplugin - I don’t think that’s superseded, it’s just that there hasn’t currently been a release for 3.5 just yet. I’m not 100% sure about SwordImportExportPlugin - I couldn’t identify it as a standalone repository, @asmecher - would you mind giving your take on this assessment of these plugins and their status/relevance for 3.5?

Hi @tmrozewski and @rcgillis,

The SWORD plugins have not yet been updated; the rest area superceded by their features being integrated into the core software.

Thanks @asmecher and @rcgillis , you’ve answered exactly what I need to know!
