Articles with page numers not for citation purposes

Hello,

What is a recommended solution for inserting article metadata into the OJS when the articles don’t use page numbers but unique article number? Should the article number go to the “pages” field? If there is only single number in that field DOAJ export plugin doesn’t include this information in exported metadata xml.

Best,

Peter

Hi @piotreba,

Probably best not to use the page number field for other content – it gets interpreted and exported in various ways and will probably cause confusion. The best thing to do is use your article number as a public identifier – see Setup 4.3, “Custom identifiers will be used to identify published items” – but be warned that if this is strictly numeric it’ll probably collide with OJS’s own numeric scheme. I’d suggest prefixing these numbers with something, e.g. “a450” rather than “450”, to avoid this.

Thanks Alec,

so you suggest the “pages” field should remain empty?

Peter

Hi @piotreba,

If you don’t have actual page numbers, it’s best not to specify something else there, IMO.
